A Patriotic Event recreates the atmosphere and enthusiasm of an Australia at the outbreak of war. Rousing choruses, songs, speeches and musical performances evoke the spirit of community and patriotism that typified Australia’s fighting spirit in 1914.
While Australia’s young men went off to battle, the war effort at home was marked by dozens of demonstrations of support including Empire Day concerts, and Red Cross and YMCA fundraising events. A Patriotic Event revives these gala spectacles for the modern day.
Concert attendees will be invited to sing along to wartime favourites led by local musicians including the Brisbane Excelsior Band, University of Queensland Pipe Band, Brisbane Celtic Fiddle Club Ensemble, local choirs and soloists John Thompson (Cloudstreet, War Horse, The Great War), Nicole Murray, Elspeth Sutherland and triple-golden fiddle award winner, violinist Emma Nixon. Philip Gearing will also be playing the spectacular Father Henry Willis Organ.
Booking tickets is required at $25 adult, $15 concession/child and with group bookings also available.
The event is supported by the Queensland Government ANZAC Centenary grants.
